Southwestern University is
one of the state's first institutions of higher learning. After consolidating in 1875 from four Methodist institutes dating from the 1840's, farmers and merchants found themselves moving over for scholars and professors. Today Southwestern has an endowment of more than $280 Million (one of the largest per student in the nation), a student population of 1300 or so, and has become one of the best liberal arts colleges in the country. |
